My father, TD Brigode, was a plank holder on the Gyatt. I write on his behalf.
Sadly, he passed on June 3rd, 2005.

My father was very proud of the time he served as a radio man on the Gyatt. My earliest memories are of his framed picture of the ship; he also had his old white hat and his duffel bag even into the early 60's.
I remember how excited he was listening to the reporting on the radio of the Gyatt's launch of the first missle from a Navy ship.
On this web site, the firing malfunction of September of 45 was mentioned. Contrary to the report of no injuries, my father got debris (gunpowder?) in his left eye and had recurring problems well into the late fifties. |

The Gyatt was a great ship and I got to ride a bosens chair when I left in the middle of the Atlantic to join the crew of the USS Cotten DD669 in 1955 to 1957 |

As you can tell I am a Gyatt and am related to the marine your ship was named after, Edward Earl Gyatt. He was my fathers cousin. I also served in the navy from 1986 to 1996. I noticed your reunion this year is in Texas, which is probably too far for me to go, but I will keep and eye on your site and if you have one near Washington, I would like to go and pay my respects to the crew of the USS GYATT (DD-712/DDG-1) Hope to hear from you.

My father served on the Gyatt in 1945. He was Robert E. Doty (Y2). The only person he served with that I remember was "Bunn" (L.E. Bunn). He told me stories of the shakedown cruise and manuevers off Cuba. I am interested in hearing from those who served on or are otherwise connected with Gyatt.
