The
eighth annual meeting of the USS Gyatt Assn. was held at 10
a.m. on
Aug. 22, 2003, in Monroe Mi. Gordon Sanders, president, opened the Meeting
with the pledge of allegiance, followed by a prayer led by Tom Fuller, Chaplain.
A
motion to accept previous minutes was made and passed. The treasurer's
report was read and approved. The auditing committee found the
treasurer's books to be balanced and in perfect order. Martin
Autio and Roland Castillo, committee members, recommend that
no change be made and that this report be included in the minutes.
Several
e-mails, letters, notes, etc. were read from those not attending.
OLD
BUSINESS: None
NEW
BUSINESS: Dates for the 2004 Boston reunion
are Sept. 22-26; 2005 reunion in Laughlin, Nev; 2006 San
Antonio and 2007 in Washington, DC - Baltimore area. All
were approved by a show of hands.
Discussed
at great length was what to do with the present mailing list.
A motion was made and passed to get help from a mailing service.
A motion was made and passed to send out inquiries again inviting
all shipmates to remain on mailing list. The association will
keep two lists - mailing and roster.
Information
on reunions will be sent to VFW, Navy League, Ships Colors and
American Legion by the president, and to Tin Can Sailors by the
secretary.
Officer
nominations were opened. Danny Hutchison declined nomination
for president. Gordon Sanders, president; C.F. Turk, vice president,
and J.C. Johnson, treasurer, all were nominated and unanimously
elected by the group. A. J. Metdepenningen's offer to become
secretary was unanimously accepted. Tom Fuller, Chaplain, Jack
Wardell, ships store, and Fred Barata, historian, will keep their
positions.
GOOD
OF ASSOCIATION: A motion was made and passed
to send $100.00 to Tin Can Sailors. After some discussion,
a motion was made and passed to set aside $2500.00 to have
a plaque made for the Naval Memorial in conjunction with
the Washington-Baltimore reunion. Tom Fuller passed out V
A pins to those wanting them. J.C. and Shirley Johnson and
Larry Geiger were thanked for all the work they've done.
A.
J. Metdepenningen, host, announced that the sabre (presented
by Gen. Custer) will be engraved with 2003 reunion information.
He also said that a reporter from the local paper will be at
the banquet to do a story on the reunion. A.J. also thanked the
group for coming to "little ol" Monroe .
